Each year, Consumer Reports compiles data to determine which new cars are the most and least reliable. The magazine reviews the number of major and minor complaints for each make and model to create their research-based recommendations.

If you have concerns about your new car, find out whether it appears on the Consumer Reports least reliable list.

2020 Chevrolet Colorado

This midsize truck received worse-than-average reliability ratings compared to similar vehicles. Drivers of this pickup truck report issues with the vehicle’s transmission, electronic components and infotainment system. Reviewers also notice the Colorado’s less-than-impressive handling.

2020 Chevrolet Camaro

Another Chevy, this one an updated version of the brand’s classic muscle car, is second on the list. In fact, General Motors stopped sales of the 2020 Camaro in October 2019 because of problems with the vehicle’s emissions system. Because of the car’s discontinuation, buyers should not expect an upgrade or repair on the horizon.

2020 Jeep Wrangler

Next up is one of Jeep’s most iconic models. The rugged Wrangler was the subject of a February 2020 recall because of a dangerous problem with the front axles that increases crash risk. Many Wrangler owners have also reported loose steering, which sometimes arises when the odometer is still in the dual digits.

2020 Volkswagen Atlas

Although the Atlas is one of the manufacturer’s most popular SUVs, it receives below-average reliability ratings. The most commonly reported problems with this VW vehicle include oversensitive electronic sensors, such as those on the SUV’s parking assist function. The Atlas was also the subject of a recall because of a design flaw that allowed users to horizontally adjust their headlights, a safety hazard because of visibility.

California car buyers have consumer protections under the state’s lemon law. If your new car will not run correctly even after you seek repeated repairs, you can even ask the court to return your money in exchange for the vehicle.
